Known also with names such as the Caribbean of Italy or the Maldives of Italy, the Salento area is a great treasure chest with beautiful areas that are not only natural but also of historical and cultural importance.
These are the tours that we recommend you going on in the Salento area, by taking the most of the convenient position of the Hotel Delle Palme, with a free car park, from which it will be even easier to organise several trips to the surrounding areas, accompanied, when requested by the guides that can be booked directly in the hotel.
Some ideas for your itineraries
The Salento area is rich in fortified citadels, a sign of the bitter fighting that shook the local area. One of the most beautiful fortresses is close to our hotel: at approx. 8 km from Lecce you will be able to admire Acaya Castle, in the Vernole district, at the centre of an important historical and artistic recovery project.
The Ionic coast, the western part of the Salento area, is a succession of incredibly beautiful locations, a paradise for those who love the sea. In order to realise this, it is sufficient to go to Leuca and Punta Ristola, or rather the tip of the “Heel of Italy” and then to climb up along the coast, covering approximately 70 km, passing through Gallipoli and ending up in Porto Cesareo.
Castro Marina, Santa Cesarea Terme, Porto Badisco, Otranto, Torre dell’Orso and many other splendid beaches: also the Adriatic coast is a plethora of wonders, for those who love the most beautiful colours of the sea. A visit to the Grotta della Poesia (Cave of Poetry) must not be missed as it is considered one of the most beautiful natural swimming pools in the world!
Traces of ancient, prehistoric settlements (approx. 4th millenium B.C.) are still well-visible in the forms of dolmens and menhirs. In Giurdignano, in the “Megalithic garden of Italy”, is situated in one of the most important concentration of these ancient artefacts.
In the area to the north of Lecce, travelling towards Bari, there is the Itria Valley, that is home to an extremely rich heritage of oil mills, wine cellar, large farms and … trullis! This is a trip for enthusiasts of food, drink and nature that must not be missed!
